I don't remember what I paid for this--probably $5, which I rarely go above. It's a big piece of heavy, largely non-functional machinery to wear on a wrist, but it has the Mona-Lisa Mystery that makes it worth the bother. This time-keeper's allure is its elusive legibility. The minute and hour hands are black of the identical shade and grain as the background--no difference for separating the time from its context.So how's it done? By finding CU reading glasses or doing a lot of slanting, pivoting, light-bending with the watch until the hands are just barely visible. If I keep practicing, I'll be able to pick out the time within 15 seconds (with ideal lighting conditions). It's a watch that rewards those who put in the effort. The time, moreover, has been accurate for the two months I've owned it.
